Stepping into a vintage store you will be both instantly overwhelmed and delighted. The walls are covered in a rainbow of framed art and the shelves lined with nostalgia inducing trinkets. And in between will be racks of assorted clothing and accessories. Alas, you won’t have to shell out your life savings on designer clothing at a vintage store. However, it’ll take some searching to find those needles in the haystack that will become your wardrobe favorites

Don’t be afraid to get creative at a vintage store. Some of the clothing may at first appear too bold or maybe outdated but styled right it can be trendy and sophisticated.

To start off you want to find a focus piece, and then center everything else around it. Try a bold printed blouse, or a floral dress. You never know what you’ll find, be open to trying on clothing you wouldn’t in any other store.

Then when you’ve found that perfect piece you want to look for the supporting pieces to go around it. Vintage stores have vast selection of jeans, and not just mom-jeans, but different unique styles for every look. Pair them with a chunky leather belt or an oversized sweater and take your outfit from basic to captivating. Define your own style with a vintage hat or a silk scarf. Accessories make the outfit and at a vintage store you’ll find unique pieces you’ll see on no one else.

Once you’ve found everything make sure it's in good condition. Checks for loose seams or tears in the fabric. You don’t want to get home to discover your new favorite shirt already has a stain in it. And don’t feel afraid to haggle on the price tag, many stores will go lower if you ask.

So, remember to go into your local vintage store with an open mind and an eye for finding hidden gems. You might be able to find some luxury designer items and you won’t even have to break your bank. Before you know it, you will have a beautiful new wardrobe and your friends won’t be able to believe just how little you spent. Better still, no reason to tell them your secret!!
