6 Steps for Natural Everyday Makeup

For most of us, waking up in the morning can be a battle. To make matters worse, we’re usually greeted in the mirror with dull skin, unruly brows, and tired eyes. Luckily, we can use only a couple of products to transform ourselves and let others have the perception that we got a full night’s sleep. Read below for six steps to aid your morning battle.
Foundation
Choose a foundation that is not only your correct shade, but also your correct undertone. This will ensure its imperceptibility on your skin. The function of foundation should be to even out your complexion, not mask it completely. Keep this in mind when choosing the coverage of your foundation. When creating a natural makeup look, it is okay to have your natural features such as freckles come through the foundation. As for finish, there are generally three: matte, satin, and dewy. Matte is typically best suited for an oily skin type while dewy is better for dry. If you happen to fall in between, a satin finish will work best.
Application of foundation is very important. Application can determine whether or not a foundation will look more heavy or noticeable. To achieve a more natural look, apply your foundation with a damp beauty sponge, bouncing it on your skin to blend out the foundation. This not only sheers the product slightly, but also gives a very even application.
Under – Eye Concealer
One of the most common complaints in the morning is dark under eye circles. They instantly make you look tired, aged, and listless. Luckily, we have concealer to seemingly gain instant hours of sleep. Most concealers will offer an adequate amount of coverage for dark circles. However, if you find that your darkness is still peeking through, try a concealer with a pink or peach undertone. This tone will counteract the blueness of dark under circles. The best finish for under eye concealers is one that brings a reflective or brightening quality to your skin. This leaves you looking awake and energetic.
As for application, a fluffy blending brush using patting motions usually yields the best results. To keep the look natural, apply the concealer only where the darkness is present.
Highlighter
To finish off the skin, a highlighter is key to give your-self a glowing radiance. This glow gives the appearance of a healthy and young-looking complexion. Not only does highlighting give a beautiful finish to your skin, it brings forward your best features. Deciding on what you want to bring out on your face is entirely up to you. Some of the more common places to highlight are the tops of the cheekbones, the tip or bridge of the nose, the Cupids bow, and your brow bone. Essentially, it’s most flattering to highlight the high points of your face. Highlighting can be done using your fingers or a fan brush for subtle results.
If you have dry skin, a cream or liquid highlighter may work best for you. If you have normal or oily skin, a powder highlighter will be more suited. Either way, highlighting will visually bring forward your best features.
Brows
When considering filling in your eyebrows, it is important to keep in mind shade, and definition. The shade of your brow pencil should be a very close match to your hair color. Often, a shade with cooler undertones will look more natural as opposed to warmer undertones. When it comes to definition, less is more. Fill in your brows to enhance their shape and to add detail back into your face. A heavy brow can imbalance the face and become a focal point.
Mascara
Eyes are one of the most important facial feature. When we interact with others, we look them in the eye. Therefore, it is important to take extra care when working on the eyes. Mascara should give clarity to the eyes and open them. Mascara formula can be a personal preference, if you find that your lashes lack length, a lengthening formula will work best. Likewise, if your lashes lack volume, a volumizing formula will thicken your lashes. If you want to achieve a very natural look, try brown mascara. If not, black mascara is flattering on everyone.
Lips
Lips should look inviting and healthy. Both well hydrated and a nice coloring. The lips reflect your overall health. If lips appear dry and lack color, others may believe you’re feeling under the weather. One of the best products to correct these issues is tinted lip balm. A sheer amount of pigment with lots of moisturizing ingredients makes for a good combination. Find a shade that is close to your natural lip color. This will boost their appearance and give a “your lips but better" effect.
