Bad breath is caused by bacterial growth in your
mouth. While having good oral hygiene is important, there are other things that will alter how your breath smells. Everything you eat will influence how your breath smells, and that smell won’t leave until the food has fully passed through your body. The good news is that there are foods that will leave your breath smelling fresh and clean.

There's a reason every health article will tell you to drink a lot of water. Water not only keeps your body functioning but effects how your breath smells! Dehydration will lead to dry mouth. Drinking water will help to get rid of any bacteria causing odors by washing them away.

Foods that are not only good for your health but for breath as well include raw fruits and vegetables. First, these foods will help your mouth to produce saliva which will wash out bacteria. And since they also have a softly abrasive texture, they will help to scrub off any particles left on the teeth too. Try snacking on fruits and vegetables like apples, celery, and broccoli.

There are also many foods that will kill off the bacteria in your mouth, removing the bad breath problem. On a chilly day you could drink some green tea, which contains a natural antioxidant that fights bacteria. Or on a warm day snack on a food high in vitamin C such as citrus fruit.

You could also try chewing on herbs or adding them to meals. Add parsley to your dishes to combat the effects of smelly Sulphur creating foods. Blend mint into your smoothies to not only add flavor but freshen your breath.

And if you’re planning on anyone getting close to your mouth, remember to avoid odor causing foods. Garlic and onions will coat your mouth with strong smelling Sulphur compounds. Milk and cheeses will leave behind amino acids that bacteria feed on. If you’re really worried about these smells, just carry mints with you to mask the smell, or brush your teeth to rid your mouth of any bacteria and debris!

  1. Bad breath cures are not something many people talk about, in fact save for hurtful comments made behind the back of someone with bad breath, there is rarely any real discussion on this all too common personal problem.
