Putting together your outfit in the morning can be a daunting chore for some. With so many choices and places to be during the day, you find yourself looking for an outfit that’ll work for everything. Unfortunately, this doesn’t often work; the same outfit that will work for getting drinks on the weekend might not go over so well for that job interview you’ve been working so hard for. A skirt is one of the most versatile pieces a woman can wear. Depending on length, fit and style, you can have one for every occasion. Remember that what you wear communicates a message to others and gives them a perception of you, even if you don’t know them. Of course, what you decide to wear is entirely up to you, and our style isn’t always an absolute reflection of who you are as a person. You should always wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. Here, are a few ideas on different types of skirts that you may find helpful for certain occasions.

Lunch Date

Whether you’re out with a group of friends or on an actual date, this is a fine time to wear a skirt that shows your personality. Choose a length and style that is flattering for your legs. A shorter length will give you the appearance of longer and leaner legs, while a longer skirt can make you look shorter. As for style, this is completely up to you. You could go for a short mini skirt with a bright color to show your individuality. Likewise, you could also choose a long, lightweight maxi skirt with a unique pattern. Being around your friends or a date should be a comfortable environment where you feel at home to express your personal style without judgment. Generally, there aren’t many social constraints for this occasion. Therefore, feel free to wear pretty much whatever you want. The only thing you might want to consider is the weather, so you can gain maximum comfort.

Job Interview

A job interview can be a crucial part in one’s steps towards a career. Therefore, it is important to impress with your outfit. How you dress for work will be dependent upon the culture of your place of work. For example, if you work in an artistic field, you’ll probably be able to dress a lot more casually than if you plan to work in a legal or finance office setting. Regardless, the job interview should always express a balance of professionalism and personality. For an interview, it is always better to be more cautious. Try a pencil skirt in a neutral tone that sits close to your knee paired with a structured blouse in your favorite color and maybe a blazer. Add some jewelry that reflects your personality to show your individuality. Just keep in mind that you want to be remembered by the hiring manager or HR personnel for your intelligence, competency and personality and not your clothes, as such!

Formal Party

A formal party such as a wedding, anniversary, or graduation calls for a sophisticated outfit, complete with a skirt that that portrays elegance. Chances are at a formal event, you’ll be around family members, or maybe people you’re trying to impress. This doesn’t mean you have to wear a plain gray pencil skirt as you might to an office. Instead, opt for something loose and flowing made of a nice fabric, or even combination of fabrics. Having a looser fitting skirt for this occasion will be very helpful if you decide to dance at this party. For a formal event, pairing this type of skirt with a pair of fun heels is almost sacrosanct. For an added layer of unity, try to match at least two parts of your outfit together. For example, your jewelry might coordinate with your bag, or your heels might match your nails. This is going to help you look more put together for a formal party and let others know that you spend time on the finer details.

Business Meeting

A business meeting is not only about dressing appropriately for the occasion, but also for the person you are meeting with. Like a job interview, your outfit should convey professionalism. This means a well-coordinated outfit that isn’t going to distract someone due to its lack of professionalism or organization. Steer clear of obnoxious colors and try something that is going to blend in with others. In a business meeting, you’re working with others, perhaps on a team. Therefore, it is important and helpful to try to look like a team. You don’t have to wear matching outfits but wearing similar styles and tones can convey to others that you work together seamlessly. A skirt for this occasion would work best around knee length with a neutral tone.

Weekend

The weekend is the time to spend time with friends, socialize and meet new people. Regarding your outfit, anything goes. Wear what makes you feel beautiful and confident. If you’re spending your weekend bar hopping or waiting to get into the newest club down the street, wear a skirt that shows off your personality and sense of style. The weekend is mostly free of social constraints. Flashy fabrics, and hemlines well above the knee are always acceptable but most suited for the weekend. Keep in mind what is going to work best for you, this could be a short mini skirt to accentuate your legs, or a tight body conscious skirt that ends just above the knee. Even if you’re just casually running errands, its sometimes fun to put together an outfit and look nice. Try experimenting with different fabrics such as denim.

Investing in your wardrobe is important because you’re more than likely going to be in different situations that call for assorted styles of outfits. Though this can be a big task to tackle, keep in mind the benefits of having something to wear for every occasion. Shop for inexpensive yet stylish clothing at fast fashion stores, such as Zara, Top Shop and H&M. Also, don’t forget to check out second hand shops, as well as perhaps consider swapping clothes with friends that are the same size as you. This way, you can collect new pieces without breaking your budget. Having confidence in your appearance is important to thriving as an individual. Trying out new styles and designs of clothing is a terrific way to develop your personal signature style.
