Lip Shape and Personality

Universally, when we express our thoughts and our emotions, the mouth is the first physical indication of what we are feeling. However, today face scientists believe that the mouth, specifically the lips reflect deeper psychological aspects of a person. Experts all around the world are suggesting that lip shape is directly correlated to different personality traits. “You were born with the features you have for a reason—every feature is linked to a part of your personality and they all work together to represent who you are,” stated face reading expert Jean Haner. The concept of lip reading focuses on differentiations in shape, plumpness, size, and cupid’s bow definition (middle of top lip). These features have been illustrated to reflect personality traits.

Naturally Plump Lips

Naturally full lips indicate the characteristic of empathy in an individual, along with strong parenting instincts. Innately, people with this lip shape encompass a caring and selfless nature, causing them to tend to protect others. They also tend to value relationships, including a close circle of friends that they can care for.

Thin Lips

According to face reading expert Jean Haner, people with thin lips tend to be very introverted. These individuals can be characterized as “loners” who are very timid and independent. They are completely okay with being alone and rely mainly on themselves. Even though these people may not be as fluid in the area of relationships as people with full lips, they may just need a partner who has a very defined direction to balance out their personality.

Plump Lip Center

People with lips that are plumper in the center are often known to enjoy being the center of attention and love being in the spotlight. They tend to prefer being surrounded by others and engaging in fun/exciting activities. Regarding relationships, they could be known as “drama queens,” based on their innate desire for attention.

Different Cupid’s Bows

The level of definition of the cupid’s bow (middle of top lip) can also be a strong indication of personality. Individuals with peaked cupid’s bows are mainly characterized by their creativity, valuing self-expression and self-awareness. They also have quick minds and could be very impulsive. On the other hand, people with rounded cupid’s bows tend to be sensitive individuals who are very compassionate and kind-hearted. They get joy from helping others, but they are easily upset due to their highly sensitive nature. Lastly, people with undefined cupid’s bows are known to be responsible and reliable individuals. They have no problem working efficiently to meet deadlines and manage time. However, they tend to come off too strong to others based on their extreme generosity which causes them to lack social boundaries.

“Ordinary” Lips

While there are a variety of many defined lip characteristics that directly connect to distinct personality traits, there are also some people who have relatively “standard” lips. These people have medium-sized lips that don’t have over defined cupid’s bows, but they also don’t lack definition. Jean Haner characterizes these people by their overall balanced lives. They are skilled in utilizing logic and common sense to approach various situations. They are also known to be good listeners that love to open when given the chance. Based on these characteristics, in relationships these individuals tend to search for a deep connection with people, rather than being needy or seeking drama.
