What is Kickboxing?
Fitness kickboxing training is the perfect full-body workout that will engage every muscle group in your body, burn fat, reduce stress, and increase muscle tone. Kickboxing is a form of high intensity interval training (HIIT), that encourages the muscles to exert maximum force for short intervals of time. The various movements performed throughout kickboxing classes are known to improve flexibility, balance, and coordination, while burning up to 1200 calories in just one hour. Not only does this workout build strength, but it also increases muscle endurance over time throughout your entire body. Kickboxing is also well known as an effective stress management activity that stimulates the secretion of endorphins in your brain, which ultimately block out pain and improve your mood. This is a workout that is made for everyone; men and women of all ages and all different skill levels, with an array of different fitness goals.
What to expect in a Kickboxing class?
Most people hear the word “kickboxing” and assume that this workout only entails punching and kicking. While these movements are definitely a large portion of the workout, kickboxing classes also utilize a mixture of plyometric and calisthenic exercises. Plyometric exercise is also known as “jump training,” and includes movements where the muscles exert maximum force for short intervals of time. This entails exercises such as jumping rope, jumping squats, lunges, etc. On the other hand, calisthenic exercise consists of gross motor movements such as running, grasping and standing performed in a rhythmic manner. Also, a huge part of kickboxing is based upon cardiovascular conditioning where your heart rate is elevated for most of the workout in an intense zone. There are also brief segments of core work such as crunches and planking throughout the workout that allow you to breathe without taking a complete break mid-workout. Overall, kickboxing is much more than just punching! Kickboxing class will give you a complete full body workout with every class.
Health Benefits of Kickboxing on a Regular Basis
Based on the cardio aspect of fitness kickboxing, this workout does have positive impacts on your heart and of course, your overall health. This form of cardio can lead to a daily calorie deficit, since you are burning such a large mass of your calories. This ultimately allows for fat loss, including belly fat that can be very difficult to shed. Excess amounts of belly fat can be directly associated with high risks of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc. Also, attending kickboxing on a regular basis has been proven to increase overall energy levels since your heart and lungs are able to perform more efficiently. Adapting this as a consistent fitness regimen has also been shown to improve mood, assist in better quality sleep, and of course manage stress.
Physical Benefits of Kickboxing
Kickboxing has been proven to have a multitude of physical benefits as well. Overall, a workout with this high of an intensity will lead to muscle toning and loss of fat. However, studies have shown that kickboxing also improves fitness, power, flexibility, and agility. This activity can also improve coordination and balance which could be beneficial now and as you age. Overall, kickboxing is a great choice for anyone who is looking to burn calories, lose weight, improve stamina, and improve heart health. You don’t need any previous experience to start kickboxing, you can start slowly at your own pace and gradually work your way up to exercising at full intensity.
