Ingredient
1/2 lb store bought pre-cooked wheat protein strips
1 med size red onion thinly sliced
1 tbs crushed garlic
1 tbs minced ginger
1 tbs olive oil
2 tbs store bought tomato sauce
1 tbs soy sauce
2 tsp sweet and sour sauce
2 plum tomato roughly chopped
1 jalapeño finely chopped

Saute onions, garlic and ginger in oil in a large skillet
Add tomato sauce and stir well and cook for a couple of minutes
Add wheat protein strips with remaining ingredients to the pan and mix well and cook for a couple of minutes
Sprinkle dried mint as a garnish and for fresh aroma

This dish is a great source of protein and a perfect substitute for chicken. Serve with mashed potatoes or brown rice.
Wheat protein strips are made out of wheat gluten (protein part of the wheat grain), chick pea flour and soy flour… You can buy them in any good health food store and they come pre-cooked in soy sauce. To make them more palatable you really need to add more flavorings and hopefully the above recipe will provide some ideas. The wheat protein strips are a great substitute for meat for vegetarians or for those who want to cut down on meat consumption. They are a great source of protein and low in fat.
