HOW THE SHAPE OF YOUR FACE DETERMINES YOUR AGING

HOW THE  SHAPE OF YOUR FACE DETERMINES YOUR AGING

If you thought visible ageing was predominantly determined by how much sun you get and how well you look after your skin then think again, as there is another important factor thought to influence the rate of wrinkling and that’s your facial structure. Yep, according to experts, the shape of your face (which is predetermined by genetics) can point to clues regarding how fast your skin will age and which areas of the face are most at risk.

To arm your regime correctly, here’s how to find out your face shape alongside some recommendations to help you win the war against ageing.

Oval Faces

Oval-shaped faces tend to have a forehead that is slightly wider than their jawline, which is typically rounded or has soft edges, and a face that is longer than it is wide. Think Julia Roberts or Jessica Alba.

Experts say that people with oval faces show the earliest signs of ageing around the eyes and on the cheeks. Creasing around the eyes and upper eyelid hooding are common plus the loss of volume and definition from the cheeks means the face can quickly look hollow and tired.

Combat this by using skincare that is focused on plumping, smoothing and strengthening the skin, keeping it resilient to collagen depletion and the development of wrinkles. Try an eye cream to reduce ageing around the eyes and apply a serum rich in hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and other actives to the cheeks daily to prevent facial sagging and deflation.

Round Faces

How do you know if you have a round face? When you look in a mirror, your face will be pretty much equal in length as in width and you will possibly have full cheeks. Round faces are just that, soft and curved with no harsh edges or angles. Think Kirsten Dunst or Jennifer Lawrence.

Most people with round faces tend to age very well as they tend to store the majority of their facial fat in the cheek area. This natural fullness means a gaunt, dull and ageing complexion takes longer to develop. However, if not looked after, the cheeks can lose volume and the nasolabial folds (those lines that run from the sides of the nose down the corners of the mouth) can become more pronounced.

Keep everything plump and juicy by using Hyaluronic Acid packed serums and creams, remembering to really massage them in to kick-start below surface circulation. To soften deep lines around the mouth, use a targeted treatment, which gradually fills and erases depressions in the skin using a blend of active ingredients.

Heart-Shaped Faces

If your forehead is quite wide but your jawline and chin taper to form a delicate point then you have a heart-shaped face. You may also have pronounced cheekbones and slightly angular features. Think Rihanna or Reese Witherspoon.

People with heart-shaped faces are said to lose the majority of their elasticity and support in the upper half of the face, mainly on the forehead and around the brow bone. Obvious wrinkles are common, as are hooded eyelids and fine lines.

Focus on using skincare infused with peptides and other wrinkle smoothing ingredients to target forehead creasing.  Use products that work to restructure the skin day after day in order to minimize the depth of wrinkles.

Rectangle Faces

Those with quite angular faces which are also longer than they are wide, possibly with high cheekbones, have what is classed as a rectangular face. If the length and width are similar in size but the face is still angular then your face is more square in shape. Think Angelina Jolie and Olivia Wilde.

Luckily, this well-structured face shape means facial ageing takes longer to show but this means any slackness and sagging starts to develop along the jawline and on the neck instead.

Invest in a targeted firming and strengthening neck treatment to combat this type of ageing. Look for products containing peptides, Hyaluronic Acid and botanicals for tightening skin, Use these products daily to keep the neck and jawline defined for as long as possible.
